KineXis App FAQs
Q: What happens at the end of my initial access period or if I want additional licenses to KineXis Imager?
A: There will be a limited fee for this feature set, please contact us directly at miosupport@keeler.co.uk for more information.
Q: What phones does the KineXis app work on?
A: All Apple iPhones from the iPhone 6 onwards.
Q: When will KineXis be released on Android?
A: We expect this to be by the end of 2021, please contact us if you require multiple users with Android phones.
Q: Are users locked to one device?
A: No, there is one account per user that is transferrable if you change devices.
Q: How does the software create images from my video?
A: KineXis analyses video footage, looking for the best quality retinal frames through a condensing lens which are then automatically extracted. It is also possible to manually select frame from your video to extract only the fundus image desired. This process takes under a minute for most videos.
Q: Does the software automatically create image mosaics?
A: Currently KineXis does not automatically generate image mosaics, however this feature is in development and we expect the able to implement this in upcoming app updates.
Q: What is the total number of patients that can be stored on a single phone?
A: This is dependent both on the phone memory and the length of examination videos, however this is normally over 100. When connected to the internet examination files can be uploaded, reducing storage space required.
Q: How can I order one MIO headband and multiple KineXis accounts?
A: In light of COVID-19, we're delighted to further support clinicians in the field by offering 2 user accounts for KineXis when purchasing the MIO. This additional account enables secure remote access for immediate guidance on the examination, treatment and diagnosis. Please contact us at miosupport@keeler.co.uk if you require additional licenses.
Q: Is there a cloud storage limit?
A: Currently there is no storage limit.
Q: What languages are supported?
A: KineXis currently support English, Spanish and Portuguese. These are automatically controlled by the native system settings.
Q: Is there a monthly/yearly subscription for the KineXis software?
A: The purchase of an MIO comes with a 1 year subscription to KineXis Imager.
Q: If my subscription to KineXis runs out, will I still have access to my cloud data?
A: Yes, we will not restrict access to any patient data captured.
MIO in Use FAQs
Q: What is the MIO's capability with small pupils/patients?
A: This depends upon the phone camera setup, however, the hands-free MIO is normally used with dilated patients to allow for easy manipulation into the periphery.
Q: Which lenses work with the MIO?
A: All standard condensing lenses work, and different clinicians favour different lenses. We currently do not have recommended sizes.
Q: Is pupil dilation required for MIO use?
A: No, however it is often used, similar to using Keeler BIOs.
Q: Can I connect a wireless bluetooth control for imaging?
A: Yes! You can connect any standard bluetooth control button to your smartphone which will act as an action command, enabling you to start and stop recordings hands-free
Q: How can I use this for teaching?
A: The MIO is used in the same technique as standard indirect ophthalmoscopy, however the screen can be duplicated from a phone to allow teaching professors to view the same images, in real time, as their students, as well as showing patient and their guardians.
Q: What lenses can I use with the MIO?
A: It's possible to use any lenses that are suitable for use with existing indirect ophthalmoscopes.
Q: How do I show the MIO screen live on a TV or computer?
A: Use the inbuilt phone screen mirroring software: Apple screen mirroring or Google Chromecast.
  1. Apple screen mirroring instructions
  2. Google Chromecast instructions

Screen share can also be used when accessing Microsoft Teams or Zoom on a phone.

Q: How do I take the mounting mechanism off a case or phone once applied?
A: Follow Rokform guidance by lifting an edge then peeling across. These are not designed to be reapplied for a second time.
Q: Can I remove the attachment piece from the back of my phone when I am not using the MIO?
A: The attachment should remain on the phone to avoid the adhesive from losing its strength. One solution, is to put the attachment piece on an appropriate phone case that can be removed from the phone when no longer in use.
Q: How does the luminosty of the phone light compare with a Keeler Binocular Indirect?
A: Most modern phones produce approximately 50-60 lumens, whilst the Keeler BIO produces approximately 70 lumens. For both the MIO and Keeler BIOs the light can be dimmed.
MIO Product FAQs
Q: How much does the MIO weigh?

Q: Does the phone shake when the head moves?
A: The headband arm is rigid enough to prevent most vibration and can be used with similar motions to the Keeler BIO.
Q: Does the MIO come with a carrying case?
A: Currently the device does not have a carrying case and is shipped in regular transport packaging. This is in the scope for future development.
Q: Is there assembly required for the device?
